What’s the Most Popular Turkish Drama?

Jump into any Turkish drama Facebook group and ask, “What’s the best dizi?”

Then stand back.

You’re about to get 347 answers, several strongly worded disagreements and at least one woman prepared to defend Can Yaman like she’s being paid by his legal team.

There really isn’t one universally agreed-upon winner. But there are a handful of Turkish dramas that come up again and again:

  • Historical Epic: Diriliş: Ertuğrul — Battles, loyalty, betrayal and enough episodes to qualify as a long-term relationship. Think Game of Thrones with better values and no dragons.

  • Romantic Meltdown: Kara Sevda — Impossible love, heartbreak and suffering served in increasingly generous portions. You’ll cry. Then you’ll discover you apparently had more tears available.

  • Rom-Com Gateway: Erkenci Kuş — Sanem. Can. The cabin. The chemistry. For many international fans, this was the show that turned “I’ll try a Turkish drama” into “Why am I researching flights to İstanbul?”

  • International Heavy Hitter: Sen Çal Kapımı — Fake engagement, enemies-to-lovers, ridiculous chemistry and Serkan Bolat being Serkan Bolat. This one travelled far beyond Turkey.

  • The One Fans Never Stop Recommending: Kara Para Aşk — Diamonds, murder, dirty money and a love story that really could have used fewer wealthy people behaving badly. An older dizi that still gets talked about for great reasons.

  • Crime & Brotherhood Pick: İçerde — Undercover cops, organized crime, brothers, betrayals and twists that make trusting anyone feel irresponsible.

  • Revenge Pick: Ezel — Betrayal. Revenge. Reinvention. If your preferred romance comes with a generous side order of you will PAY for what you did to me, welcome.

  • Classic Rom-Com Favorite: Kiralık Aşk — Fake arrangements, workplace romance and enough chemistry to keep this one firmly on longtime fan-favorite lists.

And that’s before someone storms into the comments demanding to know WHY YOU LEFT OUT THEIR SHOW.

Which brings us to the real answer.

Ask Turkish drama fans, “What’s the most popular Turkish drama?” and you may get statistics.

Ask them, “What’s the BEST Turkish drama?”

Now you've started a war.

Because the best dizi is usually the one that got you.

The one you stayed up until 3 a.m. watching. The couple you still aren't over. The soundtrack that can emotionally destabilize you in three notes. The fictional man against whom all subsequent fictional men are unfairly measured.

So don't worry too much about finding the best Turkish drama.

Pick your poison.

Slow burn? Revenge? Historical epic? Enemies-to-lovers? Family scandal? Man staring moodily across the Bosphorus?

Find your vibe, pick a lead you're willing to make questionable sleep decisions for...

and press play.
